day break some of his records: &#8220;Yes, Sidney Crosby. He&#8217;s the best player I&#8217;ve seen since Mario Lemieux.&#8221;</li>
<li>He was drafted first overall in the QMJHL draft on June 9, 2003 by the Rimouski Océanic.</li>
<li>On December 28 , 2003 Crosby scored his first goal of the World Junior Hockey Championship in a 7-2 win over<br />
Switzerland, becoming the youngest player ever to score a goal for the team at age 16 years, 4 months, 24 days.<br />
The puck from Sidney&#8217;s record goal is currently displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame</li>
<li>In 2003 Sidney was the only player under the age of 18 to be invited to join the Canadian Junior Hockey Team</li>
<li>While having great success in hockey, Crosby still managed to maintain an 85% average as a Grade 11 student.</li>
<li>His father, Troy Crosby, was also a hockey player (a goaltender) and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in<br />
the 1984 NHL Entry Draft and like most Canadian children Sidney was a Montreal Canadiens fan as a child.</li>
<li>Crosby&#8217;s Team Canada jersey from the gold-medal game at the World Junior Hockey Championship was stolen by an<br />
Air Canada baggage handler in January 2005. It was later recovered and was auctioned off for $22,100 for youth<br />
hockey charities and South Asian tsunami relief.</li>

<li>In 2005, Crosby drew criticism for skipping the CHL Top Prospects Game , where he was slated to go head to head<br />
with fellow top prospect Gilbert Brule .</li>
<li>He appeared on <em>The Tonight Show </em>with Jay Leno on August 4 , 2005 , five days after being drafted first overall<br />
by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2005 Entry Draft.</li>
<li>Arrived in Pittsburgh for the first time on August 10 , 2005 .</li>
<li>During his rookie year with the Penguins he lived with Mario Lemieux&#8217;s family while in Pittsburgh.</li>
<li>His number is 87 due to his birthday being August 7, 1987 (8/7&#8211;87).</li>
<li>Scored his first NHL goal on October 8, 2005 against Boston Bruins goaltender Hannu Toivonen.</li>
<li>He lost his second game worn sweater (stolen) on a plane in less then a year. This jersey was the first one that he<br />

<li>On April 13, 2006, Crosby broke Mario Lemieux&#8217;s rookie assist record, Lemieux recorded 57 assists in his rookie year<br />
and Crosby went on to finish the season with 63 assists in his first season, a new Pittsburgh Penguins rookie record.</li>
<li>On April 17, 2006, Crosby scored his 100th point at the last home game of the season against the New York Islanders.<br />
He then finished the season with 102 points in total, 2 ahead of Lemieux&#8217;s 1984-85 rookie team record, thus setting<br />
another new Pittsburgh Penguins rookie record.</li>
<li>Crosby is the youngest player in the history of the NHL to score 100 points in a single season, and only the 7th<br />
rookie to do so.</li>
<li>He is also the first NHL rookie to record over 100 points and 100 penalty minutes in a season.</li>
