• Crosby was born in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia (just outside of the city of Halifax)
• When he was a young boy, he would play hockey in the basement of their home, which his father had painted white and
  added red and blue lines
• At age 3 Crosby began skating on ice
• At age 7 Crosby he was featured on Hockey Day in Canada , an annual special presentation of the Canadian

• Wayne Gretzky told a reporter from The Arizona Republic , in an answer to a question if a player may some

• He was drafted first overall in the QMJHL draft on June 9, 2003 by the Rimouski Océanic.
• On December 28 , 2003 Crosby scored his first goal of the World Junior Hockey Championship in a 7-2 win over
  Switzerland, becoming the youngest player ever to score a goal for the team at age 16 years, 4 months, 24 days.
  The puck from Sidney’s record goal is currently displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame
• In 2003 Sidney was the only player under the age of 18 to be invited to join the Canadian Junior Hockey Team
• While having great success in hockey, Crosby still managed to maintain an 85% average as a Grade 11 student.
• His father, Troy Crosby, was also a hockey player (a goaltender) and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in
  the 1984 NHL Entry Draft and like most Canadian children Sidney was a Montreal Canadiens fan as a child.
• Crosby’s Team Canada jersey from the gold-medal game at the World Junior Hockey Championship was stolen by an
  Air Canada baggage handler in January 2005. It was later recovered and was auctioned off for $22,100 for youth
  hockey charities and South Asian tsunami relief.

• In 2005, Crosby drew criticism for skipping the CHL Top Prospects Game , where he was slated to go head to head
  with fellow top prospect Gilbert Brule .
• He appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on August 4 , 2005 , five days after being drafted first overall
  by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2005 Entry Draft.
• Arrived in Pittsburgh for the first time on August 10 , 2005 .
• During his rookie year with the Penguins he lived with Mario Lemieux’s family while in Pittsburgh.
• His number is 87 due to his birthday being August 7, 1987 (8/7–87).
• Scored his first NHL goal on October 8, 2005 against Boston Bruins goaltender Hannu Toivonen.
• He lost his second game worn sweater (stolen) on a plane in less then a year. This jersey was the first one that he
  had worn during his first NHL game with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

• On April 13, 2006, Crosby broke Mario Lemieux’s rookie assist record, Lemieux recorded 57 assists in his rookie year
  and Crosby went on to finish the season with 63 assists in his first season, a new Pittsburgh Penguins rookie record.
• On April 17, 2006, Crosby scored his 100th point at the last home game of the season against the New York Islanders.
  He then finished the season with 102 points in total, 2 ahead of Lemieux’s 1984-85 rookie team record, thus setting
  another new Pittsburgh Penguins rookie record.
• Crosby is the youngest player in the history of the NHL to score 100 points in a single season, and only the 7th
  rookie to do so.
• He is also the first NHL rookie to record over 100 points and 100 penalty minutes in a season.
