Sport Chek was happy to welcome Crosby back this week and went out and shot this youtube video with some kids who were really excited to score the same goal as Sidney did in his first game.

When will Sidney Crosby return?

Sidney has been practicing but when will he return? Crosby, who has been out since January 6 due to a concussion, will not even start thinking about returning to his spot with the Penguins until he first can start playing full contact again, and even then he must be cleared by team doctors before he can play. With that said, look how well the Pittsburgh Penguins have done without key players like Crosby and Malkin, when Sidney does return, other teams will really need to worry, especially if he starts where he left off notching 66 points in only 41 games.

Y! Sports’ Greg Wyshynski and Nick Cotsonika debate if the Penguins star will come back this postseason.

“Shirts Off Our Backs” Fan Appreciation Night

Pittsburgh Penguins had one of their most popular fan outreach programs last Tuesday night when each player (including Injured players and those who don’t dress for the game) took part in the annual “Shirts Off Our Backs” presentation following the final regular season home game against New Jersey.

Twenty nine lucky fans from the audience were chosen at random and invited down to the ice after the game to receive game-worn autographed jerseys from each players.

HBO Sports^® and the NHL have joined forces to present “24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS: ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC” A four episode All Access series leading up to the Winter Classic on New Years Day

NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2010 – HBO Sports’ groundbreaking “24/7” reality franchise, which has captured 12 Sports Emmy^® Awards, will join forces with the National Hockey League to take viewers inside one of the NHL’s great rivalries, between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals, for 24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS: ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC, an innovative four-episode, all-access reality series, it was announced today by Ross Greenburg, president, HBO Sports and John Collins, chief operating officer for the NHL.

The HBO Sports presentation debuts in prime time WEDNESDAY, DEC. 15 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), with an immediate encore at 11:00 p.m., and follows the two clubs simultaneously, chronicling their highs and lows each week. The teams will meet in a Dec. 23 regular-season matchup on the Capitals’ home ice, leading into episode three of 24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS, as the build-up intensifies for the Jan. 1 showdown at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

One of the best things that the NHL lockout ever produced was the amazing Crosby VS. Ovechkin rivalry. It has been one of those things that has put the spark back into professional hockey. Both players are talented super stats that were drafted first overall draft picks. Alexander Ovechkin was drafted first overall by the Washington Capitals in 2003 and Sidney Crosby was selected first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins the following year. And to make things even more interesting, both of these first round picks got to both be rookies in the same year due to the cancelation of the 2003 hockey season due to the famous NHL lockout.

Now both are outstanding players and both have already won several prestige awards already and reached significant achievements in their professional hockey careers. In only 5 years, Crosby has won several awards including the Hart Trophy and the Stanley Cup (and an Olympic gold medal), Ovechkin has won his fair share too, with awards such as the Hart Trophy, the Calder and the Art Ross. The thing that makes this rivalry so great is that like many great NHL rivalries like Gretzky vs Lemeiux, both players have different styles and characteristics that make them great, making it debatable topic that all fans find them selves getting involved in. However unlike the Gretzky vs Lemeiux comparison that everybody makes , these two young players are around the same age and in the prime of their careers at the same time (Gretzky had seven seasons finished before he started to compete with Mario).

Alexander Ovechkin a young 23 year old Russian player who has captured the hearts of fans all around the world. He is best known for his spectacular goals that leaves almost any goaltender standing still as he makes it look easy, and almost always finishes off with often controversial entertaining goal celebrations. He has proven that he is a superstar with his ability to perform and excel in the NHL and help make the Washington Capitals one of the best Cinderella teams in the Eastern Conference. Best of all with Ovechkin, you never have any idea what your are going to see next.

Now along comes Sydney Crosby, a young 21 year-old from Nova Scotia who has always been a fan favorite starting at a very young age. He is known for exceptional offensive techniques and his passion for the sport. Crosby is known for his quick spectacular passes, amazing goals and amazing team leadership.

As the NHL out dorr Winter Classic match enters its 4th year, many hockey fans will be treated to the outdoor matchup they have always been hoping for “Crosby versus Ovechkin”.

Sidney Crosby burns Ovechkin for breakaway goal

Crosby ended his six game goal slump with a first period goal against Halak to tie the game 1-1, but the Pittsburgh Penguins still ended up losing Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinal to the Montreal Canadiens 4-3. The result forces the Penguins and the Canadiens to play a game 7 winner takes all match to qualiify for the Eastern Confernce Final.

“It was nice to see one go in,” Crosby said. “You work hard to get chances, so yeah, for sure, it always feels good to score.”

Crosby must do all he can to make sure they do not lose to the under dog Montreal team in game seven just like his rival Alexander Ovechkin did in the first round!

Crosby gets his first 50 Goal Season

Sid the Kid finished the NHL season in style notching his first 50 goal season and securing the Rocket Richard Trophy for the first time (tied with Stamkos from the Tampa Bay Lightning) after banging in two nice goals during the Penguins last game of the season. Crosby became the first Penguin to reach 50 goals since Jaromir Jagr in 2000-01, and it is also the first time the trophy has been split between players since 2003-04 when Rick Nash, Jarome Iginla and Ilya Kovalchuk all tied with 41 goals each.

Crosby finished the season with 109 points tied for second overall with Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, finishing ahead of them by three point was Henrik Sedin who secured the 2010 Art Ross Trophy; a first for the Swede and also the first time anybody from the Vancouver Canucks ever won the award.

Crosby finished the season 1st in goals, 2nd in points, 5th in shots, 6th in power play goals, and 8th in assists.

Last night the Pittsburgh Penguins won for the fourth time in the past five games, with an 8 to 3 victory over the New York Rangers. It was also pretty ironic, that the Penguins had a free “Penguins” cap give away to all fans at Mellon Arena last night as well.

And so as fate would have it what a great night for the Penguins super star Sidney Crosby to notch his second hat trick of the season (the last one was on October 28 in a 6-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens).

It was Crosby’s fourth career hat trick and he had two assists as well to also make it his second “five-point” game. He scored a goal in the first period (as well as 2 assists), then notched two more in the third period.

The Rangers have not won a game (regulation games) at Mellon Arena in their past 13 attempts.

The Pittsburgh Penguins win allowed them to remain tied with Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with 36 points each.
