Hockey Kids – Thanks Sid, You make our Game Better!

Sport Chek was happy to welcome Crosby back this week and went out and shot this youtube video with some kids who were really excited to score the same goal as Sidney did in his first game.

Crosby is Back! with 4 points in first game of the season

Tonight Sidney played his first game in more than 10 months since suffering a concussion from a hit from Victor Hedman. Crosby showed all that the preparation and proper recovery was worth the wait as he scored on his 3rd shift in and went on to get 4 points before the night was through. In all he scored 2 goals and then assisted in goals scored by Malkin and Orpik in a 5-0 win over the New York Islanders.

This Christmas Tim Hortons has released a new limited edition ”Tim Card” with Sidney Crosby holding his legendary Timbits hockey jersey on the front. For those who may not know, Tim Hortons is a famous Canadian coffee shop chain and the “Tim Card” is their version of a plastic reusable gift card. It allows users to add money to the card and then use it at any Tim Hortons locations.

So if you can get into a local Tim Hortons and get a Sidney Crosby Tim Card for your collection since they certainly will not last long. However I am sure we will see these on sale on places like ebay for a while as opportunists go in and grab as many as they can to resell at a later date.

We have a few cards that we will be using as prizes for our site in various up coming contests, so stay tuned.

Pittsburgh Penguins had one of their most popular fan outreach programs last Tuesday night when each player (including Injured players and those who don’t dress for the game) took part in the annual “Shirts Off Our Backs” presentation following the final regular season home game against New Jersey.

Twenty nine lucky fans from the audience were chosen at random and invited down to the ice after the game to receive game-worn autographed jerseys from each players.

Got a fan email from Julie of Hamilton, ONT the other day telling us about her young two year old “Young Crosby Fan” and how much he loves Crosby. It included this link to a pretty cute little video that we thought we would share, when he is skating around the rink with the puck, his Granfather asks him if he is going to be the next Gretzky …. but listen to his response!!

HBO Sports^® and the NHL have joined forces to present “24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS: ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC” A four episode All Access series leading up to the Winter Classic on New Years Day

NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2010 – HBO Sports’ groundbreaking “24/7” reality franchise, which has captured 12 Sports Emmy^® Awards, will join forces with the National Hockey League to take viewers inside one of the NHL’s great rivalries, between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals, for 24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS: ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC, an innovative four-episode, all-access reality series, it was announced today by Ross Greenburg, president, HBO Sports and John Collins, chief operating officer for the NHL.

The HBO Sports presentation debuts in prime time WEDNESDAY, DEC. 15 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), with an immediate encore at 11:00 p.m., and follows the two clubs simultaneously, chronicling their highs and lows each week. The teams will meet in a Dec. 23 regular-season matchup on the Capitals’ home ice, leading into episode three of 24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS, as the build-up intensifies for the Jan. 1 showdown at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
