Crosby part of 2010 Team Canada Olympic Team

Crosby was one of the twenty three Canadian hockey players included on the 2010 Team Canada hockey roster as announced by General Manager Steve Yzerman the other day. The team hopes that it can improve on the disappointing seventh place finish at the last Olympic Games and perhaps bring back the gold like they did in 2002. The roster has some return players but a lot of new faces with the hope to bring in a younger hockey generation.

Patrice Bergeron (Boston Bruins)
Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim Ducks)
Dany Heatley (San Jose Sharks)
Jarome Iginla (Calgary Flames)
Patrick Marleau (San Jose Sharks)
Brenden Morrow (Dallas Stars)
Rich Nash (Columbus Blue Jackets)
Corey Perry (Anaheim Ducks)
Mike Richards (Philadelphia Flyers)
Eric Staal (Carolina Hurricanes)
Joe Thornton (San Jose Sharks)
Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks)

Defensemen:
Dan Boyle  (San Jose Sharks)
Drew Doughty (Los Angeles Kings)
Duncan Keith  (Chicago Blackhawks)
Scott Niedermayer  (Anaheim Ducks)
Chris Pronger (Philadelphia Flyers)
Brent Seabrook  (Chicago Blackhawks)
Shea Weber (Nashville Predators)

Goaltenders:

Martin Brodeur (New Jersey Devils)
Marc-Andre Fleury (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Roberto Luongo (Vancouver Canucks)

Some key players that were left off the roster include Jeff Carter, Shane Doan, Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Brad Richards, Mike Green, Dion Phaneuf and Jay Bouwmeester.

Former NHL star Steve Yzerman is the team’s GM and Mike Babcock will assume be the Head Coach for Team Canada.

We will have to wait and see in February if the Team Canada selection was the winning combination or not.
