Vancouver 2010 Olympic Gold Medal game Video

Canada beat the United States 3-2 on in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Gold Medal game to earn its second men’s hockey gold medal in the last three Olympics, with Sidney Crosby scoring the winning goal 7:40 into overtime.

$10000 reward for missing Stick & Glove

Crosby once again has had his historic hockey memorabilia stolen. Last after scoring the over time winning goal for team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympic gold medal game things got pretty hectic. Sidney was ecstatic and threw his gloves and stick into the air just as the rest of his teammates mobbed him in the celebration. Then after all the commission was finished each Canadian player (except Crosby) was able get all their equipment back.

All that remained was one of his gloves and his mouthpiece. In the past Crosby has had some of his jerseys stolen from his bag while traveling. Hockey Canada officials have apparently checked various game video and photos in order to try and find clues of the missing items but have not had any success so far.

Reebok, Crosby’s official equipment sponsor has decided to help try and recover the missing hockey stick and glove with a “no questions asked” $10,000 reward to anyone who returns the items.

The game-used sports memorabilia has become a booming business these days and when an item is from a player like Crosby and also has historical attribute, then it could legitimately go for a lot more then the $10,000 Reebok is offering for the return.

So if any body knows the wear about of Sidney’s latest lost items then they certainly should cash in on the award money.

Crosby added his first Gold Medal yesterday with the team Canada overtime win against Team USA. Crosby also scored the over time winning goal to seal the deal.

Crosby played 7 games in the tournament scoring 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points.

Team Canada beat the Americans yesterday to in overtime to win the 2010 Gold Medal for Mens Hockey. And probably even more ironic is the fact that Sid the Kid was there to seal to deal. And there is no doubt that this goal (although nothing too fancy about it) will be remembered to many Canadians as time goes on, much like the famous goal that Paul Henderson scored during the 72 Summit series.

The teams were so close that Team USA was able to tie the game with only 24 seconds remaining to force the gold medal game to go into the extra period. In fact this game was the only game that Team USA had lost in the tournament (they beat Team Canada during round robin play) thanks to key players like Ryan Miller, Zach Parise and Patrick Kane.

Canada’s gold medal win was not really thanks to Crosby alone, the team played solid together as a team with many players chipping in and no real MVP player that stands out among the rest. Crosby did score the OT winning goal but he certainly wasn’t the best player on the team. Several players such as Rick Nash, Jonathan Toews, Jerome Iginla, Scott Niedermayer, and Roberto Luongo played just as amazing hockey as Crosby did. Yet Crosby managed to shine through when needed much like he always seems to be able to do.

Regardless of what some critics might say about Crosby’s opympic play adding an Olympic Gold Medal to an already impressive Hockey resume only makes it that much sweeter for the young super star of Nova Scotia in the minds of Canadian hockey fans everywhere.

Crosby part of 2010 Team Canada Olympic Team

Crosby was one of the twenty three Canadian hockey players included on the 2010 Team Canada hockey roster as announced by General Manager Steve Yzerman the other day. The team hopes that it can improve on the disappointing seventh place finish at the last Olympic Games and perhaps bring back the gold like they did in 2002. The roster has some return players but a lot of new faces with the hope to bring in a younger hockey generation.

Former NHL star Steve Yzerman is the team’s GM and Mike Babcock will assume be the Head Coach for Team Canada.

We will have to wait and see in February if the Team Canada selection was the winning combination or not.

2009 CP male athelete of the year

Penguins team captain Sidney Crosby was named the Canadian Press male athlete of the year and presented the Lionel Conacher Award for a second time (he also won the award in 2007).

Only 12 hockey players have ever won the Award and only six of them have ever received it more then once. So Crosby;s multiple time win puts him in the same class as past winners Bobby Hull, Phil Esposito, Maurice Richard, Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.

The award is chosen from the total votes of a poll of sports editors and broadcasters from across the country. Crosby received 248 points including 72 first place votes. The Runner up was UFC fighter Georges St-Piere followed by Steve Nash and John Tavares.

2009 Lou Marsh award

Sidney Crosby has recently been named the winner of the 2009 Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athlete for his successful year witch involved several career achievements and some new NHL records including becoming the youngest captain in NHL history to hoist the Stanley Cup above his head.

This is the second time that he was awarded the Lou Marsh award, he also won the award in 2007, after he become the youngest player to win an NHL scoring title. The trophy, named after a former sports editor at the Toronto Star, has been presented since 1936. Past winners include Steve Nash, Mike Weir and four-time winner Wayne Gretzky.

The Pittsburgh captain finished the 2008-09 regular season with 33 goals and 103 points, and was second in playoff scoring, with 15 goals and 31 points.

Tim Hortons Sidney Crosby Tim Card

This Christmas Tim Hortons has released a new limited edition ”Tim Card” with Sidney Crosby holding his legendary Timbits hockey jersey on the front. For those who may not know, Tim Hortons is a famous Canadian coffee shop chain and the “Tim Card” is their version of a plastic reusable gift card. It allows users to add money to the card and then use it at any Tim Hortons locations.

So if you can get into a local Tim Hortons and get a Sidney Crosby Tim Card for your collection since they certainly will not last long. However I am sure we will see these on sale on places like ebay for a while as opportunists go in and grab as many as they can to resell at a later date.

Crosby gets second hat trick this season

Last night the Pittsburgh Penguins won for the fourth time in the past five games, with an 8 to 3 victory over the New York Rangers. It was also pretty ironic, that the Penguins had a free “Penguins” cap give away to all fans at Mellon Arena last night as well.

And so as fate would have it what a great night for the Penguins super star Sidney Crosby to notch his second hat trick of the season (the last one was on October 28 in a 6-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens).

It was Crosby’s fourth career hat trick and he had two assists as well to also make it his second “five-point” game. He scored a goal in the first period (as well as 2 assists), then notched two more in the third period.

The Rangers have not won a game (regulation games) at Mellon Arena in their past 13 attempts.

The Pittsburgh Penguins win allowed them to remain tied with Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with 36 points each.

Sidney Crosby runs with Olympic flame

Sidney Crosby added another iconic piece of hardware to his stellar collection, except this time it wasn’t a trophy but a 2010 Winter Olympic torch.

Thousands of Maritimes lined up both sides of downtown Halifax streets to watch the Penguins captain carry the torch in a mitten-covered hand for about 300 meters. Dressed with the official torchbearer uniform, Crosby grinned and jogged below historic Citadel Hill as the bright, orange flame burned above his head.

Crosby’s hometown of Cole Harbour is located across the harbour from Halifax.

The winter games are scheduled to be held in Vancouver British Columbia in February 2010. Crosby is expected to play on the top line this time; Sidney was snubbed by Team Canada at the last winter Olympics in 2006.

Perhaps the Olympic torch run for Crosby will bring him some good luck for his play at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
