]]> Sidney Crosby has recently been named the winner of the 2009 Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athlete for his successful year witch involved several career achievements and some new NHL records including becoming the youngest captain in NHL history to hoist the Stanley Cup above his head.

This is the second time that he was awarded the Lou Marsh award, he also won the award in 2007, after he become the youngest player to win an NHL scoring title. The trophy, named after a former sports editor at the Toronto Star, has been presented since 1936. Past winners include Steve Nash, Mike Weir and four-time winner Wayne Gretzky.

The Pittsburgh captain finished the 2008-09 regular season with 33 goals and 103 points, and was second in playoff scoring, with 15 goals and 31 points.
